Product Review: L'Oreal Extra-Intense Liquid Eye Pencil, A

Hey all! Hope everyone had a grrrreat weekend!

Up for review today is a really great product that I stumbled upon while seeking out a new, basic eyeliner in Walgreens: L'Oreal Extra-Intense Liquid Eye Pencil. This little glider retails for $5-$7 in most drugstores and comes in black, brown and one other shade that I didn't spy at my particular location. Grey, green? Not sure...

Deets from L'Oreal:

Now get the gliding application, intense look, and longwear of a liquid eyeliner with the easy application and control of a pencil.
  • Rich, dramatically bold lines.
  • Pencil formula glides on smoothly and easily.
  • Smudge-proof, all-day wear.
  • Ophthalmologist tested.
  • Suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.
Made in Germany
  • Apply along lashline starting from inner corners of eye working outwards.
  • For a smokey look, gently smudge line with finger or brush applicator.
  • Removes easily with soap and water or with Clean Artiste Waterproof and Long Wearing Eye Makeup Remover.
And my review...

The Good: Supa' smooth application and it stays ALL day (especially when you apply some time of base). The color is rich and long lasting.

The Bad: Not too much to report here...you may need to use actual makeup remover to remove the remnants.

The Verdict: A all the way! Per above, this is a stellar liner, especially for the price. An absolute re-buy for me in the future!

2010 Emmy Awards: Likes and Dislikes

Here are my favorites and Dislikes for the 2010 Emmy Awards! :)

Most Favorite!:

Kim Kardashian in Marchesa
This gown does well for her curves and she looks gorgeous! Grecian Goddess.

Other Favorites:

Claire Danes in Giorgio Armani Prive
Old Hollywood Glamour! Couldn't be more pretty! :)

Jessalyn Gilsig in Nicole Miller
I love red dresses and so when I saw this I gasped. Just gorgeous!

Emily Deschanel in Max Azria Atelier
This purple gown is beautiful! The ruffling detail is perfect and not overdone.

Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer in Alexander McQueen
Hollywood's cutest couple. And my favorite couple on the TV hit drama TruBlood! :)

Jenna Fischer
I love how simple yet elegant this dress is. The color looks amazing with her complexion.

Jewel in Zuhair Murad
Such a princessy dress. The pink and beading is just girly and adorable.

Ones that I thought could be a little better...

Rutina Wesley
She has such a great figure and she hides it under this dress! Also the pattern is non attractive in my book anyways. It reminds me of a wallpaper (lol). I think if she had more of a form fitting dress that wonderful figure of hers would shine through. Love the shoes though!

Heidi Klum in Marchesa and Louis Vuitton Shoes
The detailing on the dress is amazing! However, the dress is a tad...short. I think this dress would be suited more for a party or on a date, not the Emmy's.

What are your favorites and dislikes of the Emmy's?

NOTD: Mandarin Mambo

I've finally started experimenting more with my Konad plates, and by that I mean using more then just 1 color or image plate to attempt some real nail art. Using just one color can look great but after a while you just want to be more creative. Working with average sized nails also requires picking just the right sized patterns so you don't end up making them look shorter.
I think that's why the Konad M57 is my favorite and I'd recommend to anyone thinking about trying stamping.

What I used:
Vogue Fantastic nail polish in Mandarina
Colorbar nail polish in Raspberry (looks more frosty champagne)
Sally Hansen clear topcoat
Konad M57 and M21 plates

Shield Sunglasses Like Jared Leto Of 30 Seconds To Mars

Getty Images; From top: Hot Topic ($9.99), Guess ($54.94).

Jared Leto's got some funky fashion sense, and we don't just mean his amazing Mohawk. Earlier this week, the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman wore some zebra-print shield shades to a press conference for the MTV World Stages in Mexico City. Now this is a fun way to wear animal print! Want to snag a similar pair? Try these Jungle Print Shield Sunglasses from Hot Topic for $9.99. If you like the shape but want to ditch the animal print for basic lenses, go for a pair by Guess ($54.94). It fits both guys and girls, and comes in various colors, like silver, gold, gunmetal or brown.

Taylor Momsen Ditched Her Black Eye Makeup For The Cover Of 'Sugar' Magazine

Spot the difference: Taylor on Sugar magazine; Taylor at MTV.com shoot in summer 2010.
Courtesy of Sugar; MTV.com

Taylor Momsen landed on a magazine cover! The Gossip Girl star and The Pretty Reckless lead singer is the cover model for the October issue of Sugar, a British magazine for teen girls, and she poses under the headline, "Trashy? Wild? Or secretly a bit like you?" Thought-provoking, eh? But that cover line isn't as surprising as the actual image of Taylor, in which her face is totally stripped of the black, charcoal, dark eye makeup that has become her signature. How surprising to see Taylor so fresh-faced, don't you think? What a difference!

Katy Perry Knows How To Rock A Ballerina Tutu

Katy Perry in tutus on August 27 and July 30.

We're on HIGH ALERT for ballerina tutus this summer, and Katy Perry is proving to be quite the tulle collector. Her tutu love began earlier this summer, when she wore a white one on July 30 for her performance at the MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia. Then, just this morning, she wore a pink one for her performance on the Today show. But the best part? Katy not only knows how to rock a tutu ballerina-style, but she's sly enough to actually pair the look with BALLET flats, for a ballerina look from head to toe.

Bright Blue Eye Shadow Like Paramore’s Hayley Williams

Hayley Williams on August 18 performing in Chicago, Illinois with Paramore.

MTV just announced that Paramore is performing at the 2010 Video Music Awards! That means we'll get to see the band's stylish singer, Hayley Williams, decked out for a killer performance. For previous stage looks, she whipped out blue eye shadow, like when she stopped in Chicago last week on tour. Not only does the hue look awesome against her pale skin and bold hair color, she is also wearing it in a way that appears bright, without being overpowering. There are a few ways to try this look yourself. For a smoky blue eye, try the cosmic-inspired shadow named Deep Space by Too Faced ($19.50). For a blue with a bit more sparkle, try Ell-If-I-Know by Bare Escentuals ($13), a shimmery cobalt blue. And, to try the hue without splurging, swipe on Revlon’s Matte Eyeshadow in Venetian Blue ($4.99). And tune in to see Hayley and Paramore live at the VMAs on September 12! We wonder what she's going to wear for the big night.

3 Great Ideas For Light Jackets

Kaleigha Martin of Kramey Martin, Andrea Kerbuski of Blonde Bedhead, Caylee Willett of If You Seek Style

It's almost fall, which means it's that tricky time of year we like to call In-Between Weather. So how do you suit up for a seasonal transition? We took to the style blogs to get some inspiration! There we found Kaleigha Martin of Kramey Martin, Andrea Kerbuski of Blonde Bedhead, Caylee Willett of If You Seek Style who all show off great transitional jackets. See below to find out why they're the favorites of the week.

Kaleigha Martin of Kramey Martin
Blog: krameymartin.com. Twitter: @krameymartin.
Kaleigha Martin showed off her Deni bomber jacket from Anthropologie, which is we picked for its details: double-breasted military-style buttons, puffy sleeves, and two front pockets (which are perfect for stashing your keys and cell phone). It also looks great with her outfit — a navy blue dress, brown belt, and matching brown boots. This girl is ready for fall.

Andrea Kerbuski of Blonde Bedhead
Blog: blonde-bedhead.blogspot.com. Twitter: @andreakerbuski.
Michigan-based blogger Andrea Kerbuski picked up one of the biggest trends for fall: Army green. Her cropped three-quarter length jacket by Ecote is a great neutral element for any type of outfit, which is why it pairs perfectly with her accessories, from the cream bag to the leopard scarf to the aviator shades to the Jeffrey Campbell boots. Cheers all around for this one.

Caylee Willett of If You Seek Style
Blog: ifyouseekstyle.com. Twitter: @cayleem.
Caylee Willett gave us a great idea for incorporating bleached denim into our cool-weather wardrobes. The Forever 21 jacket looks great with a black-and-white tribal mini from H&M and tons of jewelry — bracelets, rings, and even a silver ear cuff! The jacket sets the tone for the whole eighties-inspired outfit, which has a downtown vibe we totally want to steal.

August Beauty Favorites!

For the past 2 months I've been trying to wear as little make-up as possible. Now that definitly means something else to every person.
I haven't been using too many new products, but instead I've found new ways to use products I already own/was using. These are all surprisingly super budget friendly too.:)

1) Tinted moisturizer: I haven't managed to find a tinted moisturizer that gives coverage. Most just go on sheer or make me look way darker. So I make the perfect combination (to my liking) by blending my holy grail moisturizer Proactive Oil-Free with SPF 15 and Revlon Colorstay Foundation. It gives the perfect light coverage to even out my skin tone, plus stays put all day (thanks to the Colorstay Foundation which is known for that).

2) Rimmel Eyeshadow in Jet Black ($4): I've actually been using this (wet) as a liner on my top lashline and it's sooo pigmented. The only thing is this method isn't as longlasting as liquid liner.

3) Coastal Scents concealer Camo quads (in Medium) ($7). (My full review of it here).

4) Sonia Kashuk angled blush brush: I got this for about $12 at Target. I love this because it has a smaller brush head compared to regular blush brushes, and allows for more precise placement/blush contouring.

5) Korres Lip Butter in Mango ($10) (My full review here).

6) Neutrogena Rapid Clear Acne Eliminating Spot Gel ($8): I've been breaking out like crazy the past week. So of course I turn to my trusty on the spot gel. This one also gets a big thumbs up from me. It's slightly more affective then the regular Neutrogena On The Spot creams/gels. Plus it helps fade acne marks.

7) Tutti Dolci Crème Brulee Body Wash ($7): I got this on sale at Bath and Body Works and my ggggod does this smell devine! I was never a huge fan of spending money on bath products (I'm just more of a soap bar girl... or should I say I WAS). This is so rich and moisturizing, it feels like satin on the skin and leaves it smooth, which makes it great for shaving too. And true to it's name it does smell like Tutti Fruity Candy or gelato. Needless to say this is my favorite bath product at the moment and if I ever come across it again I'm buying 2 backups. Yummm..

So what are some of your August favorites?

WTF Friday: That's An Interesting Cheetah

Happy Friday to all!

Today's WTF Friday is just one offender...Ms. Katy Perry...

Splash News Online
Umm...Katy....that's quite a cheetah on your chest, girlfriend. I love me some animal print but this ensem is fug-tastic. Plus, what's with the Rainbow Bright hair?! Katy is such a cute girl but she puts together the most random assortment of duds. WTF, Katy, you are not a Cheetah girl.

Key Leather Picks For Fall By Nina Garcia

Newport News has partnered with Nina Garcia, Marie Claire Fashion Director and Project Runway Judge, who offers her take on how to incorporate leather looks into your fall wardrobe. Additionally, Garcia has selected this season’s standout leather pieces from The Leather Look Book.

These must-haves include a tailored leather girlfriend blazer (only $129), a jewel-toned leather motorcycle jacket ($159), a high-waisted leather pencil skirt ($104), a classic leather trench ($249), and a modern suede mini skirt ($69). Garcia’s picks are available in a wide range of colors, from classic neutrals like black and brown to statement hues such as teal, scarlet, pink, and violet.

1) GIRLFRIEND BLAZER
Leather was a huge classic trend that carried over from spring into fall this season. Not only has it become more day-appropriate, we are also seeing it in various options. One versatile alternative is Newport News’ Leather Girlfriend Blazer. It adds another dimension to your jeans and tee, or evening minidress!

2) RICH JEWEL TONES
Jewel tones are the easiest way to add color to your fall wardrobe.
From ruby-red tops to emerald skirts, Newport News has a great range!
A great investment piece is the motorcycle jacket, a quick way to add some
downtown feel to your outfit.

3) CHIC AND THE CITY
Chic city is all about looking polished and pulled together. Wear a structured jacket or dress to enhance your style. These pieces can go from day to evening by just adding accessories!

 4) MODERN ROMANCE
The nod to modern romance is a versatile trend for every day. You can add a scalloped open jacket over your blouse for the office, or wear a ruched side boot for an evening out. There are many choices to channel your inner romantic.

5) RUSTIC REFINED
The rustic trend is a little tricky as it can look a little too costumey. Choose a strong statement piece like the grommet and fringe shawl, or the button corset belt to add a touch to your outfit.

6) SUBTLE SHIMMER
Metallics were huge on the runway this fall, and Newport News has some fantastic key pieces to enhance your outfit with that little bit of sparkle.

7) THE NEW “IT” MINI
Everyone loves a mini skirt, but it’s hard to find one that’s winter-appropriate without looking old-fashioned. Newport News’ suede mini is just the answer; it looks great with layers and tights, or with a slim-fitting top, and comes in a variety of colors.

Jared Leto Wear Face Paint Better Than Ke$ha

Photo: Getty Images/PictureGroup

30 Seconds To Mars performed at the Lowlands Festival in the Netherlands on Monday, and frontman Jared Leto showed off a cool new look — face paint! He swooshed three white stripes across his cheeks and forehead, and dabbed pink color above his eyebrows. His mohawk was at full spike altitude. You know who also loves colorful painted faces? KE$HA! But the real question is: Who wears their face paint better — Jared or Ke$ha? We'll leave that one up to you.
